Bio - Dana Swekla

I received my CCP designation in 1999, joined the Edmonton Chapter CIC board of directors shortly afterwards and have been volunteering with the CIC ever since. I've held various positions including membership, NAIT liaison & for a 3-year term starting in 2004 was Chapter President. I currently hold the position of National Director for the Edmonton Chapter acting as co-chair of the National Education Committee (NEC). Since the Fall of 2008, I complete the marking for student assignments in the Credit Basics Program. After attending numerous previous National CIC Conferences, I look forward to my increased involvement with the 2013 conference committee for the event that is to be held in Jasper, Alberta (my favourite local vacation spot).

As with many in the Credit industry, I fell into credit & collections a few years after completing my Bachelor of Commerce Degree at the U of A. I started as a collector of business accounts (mercantile credit) with The DATA Group of Companies, where I still remain 17 years later as Credit & Collections Manager for Western Canada with a staff of three. I’m responsible for the credit & collections and all AR aspects of the Western division of this publicly traded document management service provider. The printing industry crosses nearly all industries which adds great variety and experiences.

Outside of work, I spend as much time as possible with my 2 sons (Jeffery, 8 and Andrew, 5) and Todd, my husband of 13 years. Schoolwork and sporting activities for the boys are a part of our regular routine but in the summer we especially enjoy camping in our trailer with recent destinations including Jasper, Idaho and Montana. In the winter, Todd & I curl in a mixed league and hit the links when we can in the summer. As our family matures we are developing a ready-made foursome.
